A major service includes replacing your engine oil, oil filter, air filter, aircon filter and spark plugs or a diesel filter in the case of diesel engines. This may include extras like your front and rear brake pads depending on the type of car you drive.

Depending on the vehicle, manufacturer requirements and engine type, you can count on a major service after two minor ones, so about every three years or 30,000km. This is usually also the right time to think about replacing timing belts for example. Your manufacturers logbook or in certain newer models the cluster will tell you exactly when these services are necessary.
